Overview

Sailing Course to Steer is a passage-planning app for sailors. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains clearly what information the app handles, how it is stored, and who (if anyone) it is shared with.

Data we collect

Sailing Course to Steer collects no personal data directly. The only piece of optional, user-provided information the app handles is:

• Stormglass API key — if you choose to use the Live Tide feature, you may optionally enter your own Stormglass API key. This key is stored only on your device (see Section 3) and is sent solely to the Stormglass API on your behalf when you request tide data. We never see, store, or transmit your API key ourselves.

We do not ask for your name, email address, location, or any other identifying information.

Local storage on your device

The following data is saved locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:

• Saved routes and waypoints you create
• App settings (boat speed, leeway, departure time, etc.)
• Your optional Stormglass API key
• Subscription status (whether your free trial is active or a subscription has been confirmed by Google Play)

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser or app storage through your device settings, or by uninstalling the app.

Third-party services

The app uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below.

• CartoCDN / CARTO — provides the map tiles displayed in the app. Your device requests map tiles from CARTO's servers as you navigate the map. Standard server logs (IP address, tile coordinates) may be retained by CARTO under their own policy. CARTO Privacy Policy
• Stormglass — if you choose to use the Live Tide feature and provide your own API key, your device communicates directly with Stormglass to retrieve marine current data. Your use of Stormglass is subject to their privacy policy. Stormglass Privacy Policy
• Leaflet — an open-source JavaScript mapping library loaded from unpkg.com CDN. No personal data is collected by Leaflet.

We do not sell, trade, or rent any user data to third parties.

Subscriptions & billing

Sailing Course to Steer is available on a subscription basis following a 14-day free trial. All billing is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not process, store, or have access to your payment details.

Google Play may collect and process payment and purchase information in accordance with their own privacy policy. Google Privacy Policy

To cancel a subscription, visit your Google Play subscriptions page. Cancellation instructions are available in Google's support documentation.

Age requirements

Sailing Course to Steer is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has used the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are based in the United Kingdom or European Union, you have rights under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, including the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data held about you.

Because Sailing Course to Steer stores all data locally on your device and does not transmit personal information to our servers, we hold no personal data about you that we could access, modify, or delete on your behalf. Your data is entirely under your own control.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL and the "Last updated" date at the top of the page will be revised accordingly. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
